| Driving in the Baltics | | |
Countries in the Baltics drive on the right hand side. Major roads throughout Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are of a high standard. Minor roads are of an acceptable standard, however, you may encounter some rough village roads. Signage can be a problem in rural areas, although in the more built up areas signage is adequate. Excellent road maps are available of the region.
One of the best features of driving in the region is the lack of traffic on the roads and city driving is relatively easy. Traffic jams are also uncommon. Distance between major sites and towns in the Baltics are short, making for an easy and comfortable self drive touring holiday.
Petrol prices are significantly lower than in the United Kingdom and other European countries. A litre of petrol is approximately 16.50EEK, which is approximately 1.05 Euro (0.75 pence). Service stations are easy to locate and well distributed throughout the region.
Great Baltic Touring Route travellers have access to 24 hour roadside assistance should any problems with your vehicle arise.
Please note that some roads may be under repair or construction during summer 2008.
Information on road conditions is available upon your arrival.
